Soma Kwa Furaha Initiative

The Soma Kwa Furaha Initiative (SKFI) is a Tanzania based non-governmental organization founded in 2021. We advocate for the Education, Health and Empowerment of communities to enhance better quality education for a brighter future.

We envision a healthy, educated and self-reliant community. We improve access to quality education, enabling a friendly educational environment and better healthcare, especially for vulnerable children and children with special educational needs and disabilities.

To foster an inclusive and supportive environment where every vulnerable child particularly those with special needs has equitable access to quality education, healthcare, and lifeenhancing opportunities. SKFI aims to empower children and their families, enabling them to realize their full potential and actively contribute to a resilient, just, and thriving society.

Our Team

Co-founder & Program Manager

Micky Millian

Micky Millian is the Co-founder and Program Manager of Soma Kwa Furaha Initiative (SKFI). He is a passionate development practitioner and committed social worker with years of experience driving grassroots initiatives that uplift vulnerable communities—especially children with special needs.

Driven by compassion and equity, Micky has led numerous community programs in the areas of inclusive education, child protection, healthcare access, gender equality, and economic empowerment. His leadership is grounded in collaboration, local knowledge, and a deep belief that sustainable change begins with empowering people at the community level.

Under Micky’s direction, SKFI has expanded its reach throughout the Lake Zone of Tanzania, earning trust and recognition for impactful, community-centered solution

Clara Nuru Ayoub

Clara’s role involves creating the bridge between the local community and the NGO. This involves outreach work in the local communities to identify their needs. Clara also deals with receiving and accommodating volunteers.

Digital Engagement manager

Emma Conray

Based in the UK, Emma is a technology professional. She manages the organisation website and gives professional advice to maximise online presence. Originally, she came as a volunteer and finally joined the team 

Early Childhood Education (ECE) Officer

David Tibasima

David Tibasima is a passionate educator and advocate for inclusive early childhood development. As the Early Childhood Education Officer at Soma Kwa Furaha Initiative (SKFI), David plays a vital role in designing and implementing programs that support the learning and well-being of young children, especially those with special needs.

With a strong background in early childhood education and community-based development, David is dedicated to creating safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environments. He works directly with caregivers, teachers, and local schools to promote inclusive teaching practices, early learning assessments, and developmental support for children aged 0–8.

David’s commitment to equity and access aligns with SKFI’s mission to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive—academically, emotionally, and socially—regardless of their background or ability.

Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Officer

Antony Muhehe

Anthony Muhehe is a passionate mental health advocate and trained psychosocial support officer at Soma Kwa Furaha Initiative (SKFI). With a strong background in psychology and community outreach, Anthony leads SKFI’s Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) programs, offering critical emotional and psychological care to vulnerable children, youth, and families.

He is dedicated to building safe, trauma-informed spaces where individuals—especially children with special needs and those affected by poverty, drug abuse, or neglect—can heal, grow, and thrive. Anthony works closely with schools, caregivers, and local stakeholders to strengthen mental health awareness, reduce stigma, and ensure inclusive well-being services are accessible to all.

His work reflects SKFI’s commitment to holistic development, integrating mental health into education, protection, and community support services.

Stephen Mhonzya

As an experienced operations and maintenance manager, Stephen provides advice to the general management and associated projects. 

Senior Officer – ICT for Education Program

Mtunda Kassim

Mtunda Kassim serves as the Senior Officer for the ICT for Education Program at Soma Kwa Furaha Initiative (SKFI), leading efforts to bridge the digital divide and promote inclusive, technology-driven learning for vulnerable children and youth.

With expertise in educational technology and digital literacy, Mtunda designs and implements innovative ICT solutions that enhance learning outcomes in underserved schools, especially those supporting children with special needs. He plays a key role in SKFI’s edTech initiatives—ranging from setting up computer labs to training teachers and students in digital skills essential for 21st-century education.

Passionate about equity and access, Mtunda ensures that ICT is not just a tool, but a transformative force for educational inclusion and community empowerment. His work directly supports SKFI’s mission to provide quality, inclusive education that meets the evolving needs of learners in Tanzania’s Lake Zone region.

Advisor & Supporter – Food for Smiles Project

Melisa Dangles

Melisa Dangles is a dedicated Advisor and long-term supporter of the Food for Smiles project under Soma Kwa Furaha Initiative (SKFI). With a strong commitment to child well-being, community health, and sustainable development, Melisa plays an important role in guiding and supporting SKFI’s efforts to provide nutritious meals and emotional care to vulnerable children, especially those without stable homes or with special needs.

Her support has helped enhance SKFI’s food security interventions, enabling more consistent meal distribution, improved nutrition education, and stronger caregiver engagement. Beyond her material and moral support, Melisa brings valuable insights that help shape program strategies and foster global partnerships.

Driven by compassion and a belief in inclusive development, Melisa continues to be a key voice and force behind SKFI’s mission to create healthier, happier futures for the children of Mwanza and beyond.
